ESA’s Proba‑3 Achieves First Artificial Solar Eclipse to Study Sun’s Corona #sciencefather #Proba3
In June 2025, ESA’s Proba‑3 mission captured its first artificial solar eclipse using two formation-flying satellites. Launched by India’s PSLV‑XL, the satellites fly 150 m apart to block sunlight and image the Sun’s faint corona for up to six hours per orbit. This mission will collect 1,000+ hours of solar data over two years, advancing our understanding of coronal heating, solar wind, and space weather, while demonstrating cutting-edge spaceflight technology.
