The newly discovered interstellar object 3I/ATLAS (C/2025 N1) has amazed astronomers as the third confirmed visitor from another star system, following ’Oumuamua and Borisov. Detected on July 1, 2025, by the ATLAS telescope in Chile, it is racing through the solar system at 60 km/s on a hyperbolic path. Observations from Hubble and Gemini reveal a glowing coma and tail rich in ancient water ice and carbon molecules, unlike any known comet. Expected to reach its closest approach to the Sun in late October 2025, 3I/ATLAS offers a rare window into the chemistry and origins of distant planetary systems.
